The hero, paranoia, the fight of good versus evil, greed and the final revenge are all the makings of a great Shakespearean play and now a film starring Denzel Washington. On January 14, 2021, Apple TV will air “The Tragedy of Macbeth” with Francis McDormand, Corey Hawkins, Kathryn Hunter, Moses Ingram and more incredibly talented cast members.

Joel Coen, aka one of the Coen brothers from movies, Raising Arizona and Fargo, two of his acclaimed works filmed with Academy Award winner Francis McDormand, who plays Lady Macbeth. His surreal and modern take of Macbeth is already getting the Oscar nomination buzz for Washington and McDormand and his direction, which is nothing new for the four-time Academy Award winner. The much-anticipated movie was released internationally on December 25 in theaters and will be available on Apple TV, January 14.

“The Tragedy of Macbeth” follows the Shakespearean play with Denzel Washington as Macbeth and Francis McDormand as his determined, misguided wife. She tells Macbeth of the prophecy by the three witches, played by Kathryn Hunter, and it catapults his journey of paranoia and bloodthirst that ends in tragedy. Corey Hawkins is Macduff who fights to stop the killings with Moses Ingram as Lady Macduff. Coen’s modern approach is breathtaking due to removing any visual distractions and refreshing the script with strong African-American actors for an unexpected but necessary perspective to the traditional Shakespearean roles.
