Congratulations are in order!
Eric Adams has been elected New York City’s 110th mayor!
His victory marks as the second time a Black mayor has been elected in the city’s history.
David Dinkins served as New York City’s first Black mayor from 1990 to 1993. He was the city’s 106th mayor.
The New York Times has reported this statement from Adams following his win. “We are so divided right now and we’re missing the beauty of our diversity. Today we take off the intramural jersey and we put on one jersey: Team New York.”
Adams is a former police captain and will take office on January 1st.
Current mayor Bill de Blasio took it to Twitter to congratulate Adams.
A graduate of our public schools.
A decorated NYPD veteran.
A brave voice for justice in our streets.
A bold public servant with Brooklyn spirit and style.@EricAdamsForNYC embodies the greatness of our city. He will be an outstanding mayor.
Congratulations, my friend!
