Pharrell is always giving back and with his newest initative, he’s doing it in a major way.

The Virginian Pilot has reported that Pharrell is in the process of opening small private schools for students with the first school opening in Norfolk.

The school will open up on September 7th in Ghent and consist of grades three to five.

In a statement, Pharrell said, “If the system is fixed and unfair, then it needs to be broken. We don’t want lockstep learning where so many kids fall behind; we want bespoke learning designed for each child, where the things that make a child different are the same things that will make a child rise up and take flight.”

The schools will be known as “Yellowhab” – named after the icon’s nonprofit, “Yellow.” “Hab” comes from the name of the Mars habitat in the movie The Martian.

These schools will focus on the STEM curriculum and enroll at least 40-50 students.

Enrollment is open to students in third, fourth, and fifth grade. Tuition is free for at least the first year and will be funded through the support of philanthropists.
