And in bondage they were-
Then they started to rebel
They fought and they worked
For they were not to be sold
They were not for sale
They were beautiful
They created beautiful things, you see?
They did things beautifully –
For they were made to be free
So through the fight some struggled
Through the fight some died-
Through the battle they sang-
Through the battle they cried.
Freedom Rang its final ring
They believed freedom had finally come
To live on a war ground where they fought –
And realize they are right where they started from.
The pain and the tears they cried
For they thought they had come so far-
And in bondage my people were-
And In bondage my people are
But we shall overcome the history
While keeping it in mind –
We shall soar across mountains
And peace we shall find.
And once we rise above all
And above our troubles we soar
My people will finally be free
And in bondage no more.
