Several years ago, I had a dream that taught me so much about what it means to be a powerful woman. In the dream, I watched tearfully as everything that I worked hard for was taken from me- my house, my car, my job, and most of all my possessions. I was left standing in the space where I once parked my car but this time with only keys in my hand. Over a decade later, I’m standing here answering the question, “What does it mean to be a powerful woman?”
Power: It’s a word we often associate with having authority, success, and being in control. Images of women in heels, suits, and driving luxury cars come to mind but what we often see in our mind differs from the meaning of power by definition. Authentic power is much deeper than a role, position, job, or the accumulation of material things but it is a lifestyle – a way of living, thinking, believing, and treating yourself and others. Real power bespeaks inner strength and ability.
