Move over, there’s a new host in town.

Just this morning, actress Taraji P. Henson was announced host of the upcoming American Music Awards. This will be Henson’s first time hosting the annual award show.

Previously, she’s emceed at the BET Soul Train Awards and hosted Black Girls Rock! in 2017. You’re probably thinking where the connection is for the Empire actress in the music space.

Well, if you didn’t know, Henson made her singing debut on the Hustle & Flow soundtrack back in 2006. Henson collaborated with Three Six Mafia for the track, “It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp,” which earned them an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

This year’s American Music Awards is the largest fan-voted show of it’s kind and will be held at the Microsoft Theater on November 22nd.

Megan Thee Stallion racked in five total nominations, making her the most nominated female artist this year. In addition, DaBaby and Doja Cat both earned four nominations each.
