Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago in the Robert Taylor housing projects, Chris utilized sports to change his life and thousands of other student-athletes. James established the HEROH Foundation in 2013 to provide underserved kids with the tools needed to use sports as a platform for college and career success. HEROH has helped more than 210 athletes receive an academic and/or athletic scholarship. For his work, he has been awarded the Legacy of Service award from the University of Illinois, “Game-Changer” award from Ariel Investments & WVON, and the L.E.G.A.C.Y. award for Education.
How do you utilize your knowledge to benefit and inspire others?
I use my knowledge and experience to be relatable and help to push people forward. for them to fully understand I’ve been where they are and this is how you can become successful
If you were to give a speech to young men, what would you title your speech and why?
You can accomplish anything through work ethic and self-discipline
What two quotes do you use to motivate yourself and others?
“Nobody cares, work harder”
“Don’t wish it happen, make it happen”

Please share the evolution of your brand and purpose.
My purpose in life has always been to help people no matter what area of life, but football is my gift. those that i am able to touch through the game of football is where I have made the most impact. using the tools of the game to provide them life skills and expose them to the different parts of the world.
Let’s talk about your current project you are working on.
Working on large scale facility project that would bring expert level resources to the inner city sports community.
How do you build your network for success?
Sports have given me an extremely broad network. sports, music & entertainment or mediums of our society no matter your race or ethnicity. those things have opened so many doors for me
What two moments in your life changed you the most?
– My sophomore year in college when I tore my ACL.
– In 6th grade when I moved with my grandmother.
What are three important pieces of advice you would tell your son/future son/God son, etc.
Work ethic is what separates all of us. if you want something to happen, WORK FOR IT
What piece of advice would you tell your teenage self?
DO YOUR HOMEWORK and be more disciplined.
What advice would you give to young men about dealing with their emotions?
Find someone you can trust to talk, bottled up emotions are unhealthy
If you could leave a legacy to your children/grandchildren, what would it be?
A name they could be proud of and financial stability.
What are three values that you govern and live your life by?
– Integrity: stand on your principals
– Be a great Dad.
– Dream, then execute.
How do you deal with obstacles and setbacks?
Assess the situation, redevelop a solution, attack it again.
