Currently, the owner of We Talk Magazine, Tilsa Wright, and the owner of Just Because Salon and natural hair brand called St. Charles, Carol Thomas, are building a business collective located in Brooklyn. The 2020 pandemic sparked the interest of these two business owners to rally other Black-owned businesses to join their initiative and rally together from a public relations and marketing standpoint to build a self-contained commerce ecosystem, using the hashtag, #2getherwerise. Industries represented span from media and beauty to fashion.
“Togetherness is a word used by many however its action results in endless possibilities,” says Tilsa. To add to this sentiment, Carol states, “I overheard a conversation that other business owners were having about how to get their small business to sore when the city fully opens and the fact that black business and I wanted to be apart of it so simple invited myself. I saw the benefits of it – it reminded me of a su su.”
