Q: I’ve been struggling with my hair. I’ve tested my hair porosity, but I don’t understand what role it plays with retaining moisture. What does this mean? – Sally S.
A: The porosity of your hair affects how well oils and moisture pass in and out of the outermost layer of your hair, known as the cuticle. When the cuticles are too close together, it’s not easy for water and oils to penetrate the hair which makes it harder for your hair to get the moisture it needs. Knowing what type of hair porosity you have can help you better understand how to manage, treat, and care for your hair.
