It is becoming increasingly difficult for traditional book publishing companies to compete and adapt due to the changing structure of the industry. Trends such as the rise in self-publishers and the balance between print books and eBooks are dramatically changing the industry environment, shifting the power towards authors more than ever before. However Jai’s Publishing House has been able to rise above her competitors.
Tell us about your business?
Jai Publishing House (JPH) is a full service publishing agency providing services ranging from ghostwriting to distribution to marketing. We believe in the power of writing and our goal is to promote emotional healing throughout the land through the works distributed from our platform.
One of the most prolific writers of all time, Maya Angelou, said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” We at JPH honor the story inside our clients. We honor the message and we honor the healing it produces.
As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I know firsthand what writing can heal. I use it daily. I teach it. I honor the journey. After YEARS of doing the emotional work to heal from my own past, I’ve finally found a sweet spot in life where I now have HOPE. JPH is a product of that hope. A hope to heal the masses through our works and our words.
I remember feeling depleted, empty, useless, broken, and unrepairable. Yes, I once believed that there was no hope for fixing me. I was too messed up. That’s what pain was telling me. Until I stopped believing it. I stopped listening to my pain. And I released it. On. My. Paper!
Now, 5 years later, I run a full service publishing platform where we control our voice and our message. We won’t be censored. We won’t be silent. And you will hear us!
What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?
Hands down, without a doubt, Master Business and Life Coach Dawniel Winningham has been instrumental in my growth as a business. When I met Coach Dawniel, I had just left an abusive relationship, packed all of my clothes and moved to a whole new city. I was actually living in a room at an Air B&B. I had no home, no car… just clothes, my laptop and my coffee pot. I called that my “office”. And I had one client. So I was making about $5,000 a year. I only knew one thing: The Most High told me to heal His people through writing. I knew what I was doing was a “calling”, not a “job”.
I was about to quit though. Being abused, being beaten, being knocked down, I just didn’t have the strength, or vision, to do what I was being drawn to do. But Coach had that vision. The Most High gave it to her for me. And she said to me on that day, “Girl, you know how many people need you?” And the second thing was, “Your prices are too low. Raise them.” LOL and I did what she said because I felt the divine connection. And less than a year later, I was averaging $20,000 a month.
What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?
Whatever task in your business that frustrates or messes with your anxiety, hire someone ELSE to do it! As a business owner, you have to learn what matters. Your role as a CEO is to be the visionary, so focus on sales and marketing – not posting on social media. Hire a team. And once you realize that the money that comes in your business is solely based on what you are selling, then getting money won’t be hard. Money is energy… now I don’t have time to go into detail about this here, but what you should know is that you attract what you put out. I encourage you to spend some time listening to the greatness within you.
Do you have any new projects coming up (or have you just completed a big project ~ reached a milestone, etc.)? If so, please tell us about it.
As a matter of fact, we do! Jai Publishing House has launched our NEW Signature Ghostwriting Program! We are super excited to help our clients finally get that book written, published, distributed and sold. This program is pretty much unheard of… no, not your typical ghostwriting service. This one is designed to preserve the legacy of families.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
One final message: Never quit on YOU! I don’t care how many failures you’ve had. I don’t care how many times you’ve been told ‘no’. I don’t care you believes or supports you. Never quit on YOU! You were created with intent, with purpose, and with gifts. Lean into that.

Give the readers tips for preparing and bouncing back from this pandemic.
JPH was blessed to have a community who were quick to mobilize and secure our fellow business owners, sisters, friends and families. One of the things we realized was just how important having your business paperwork in order is!
Tip #1: Position your business to receive credit (not on your personal SSN). Get a free DUNS number, EIN number, business license, registration with the State, etc.
Tip #2: If you don’t have an accountant, start with Quickbooks. But have an accounting system that tracks your money. It will be much easier to pull data and reports for banks during the business loan process.
Tip #3: Make sure you have separate bank accounts from your personal and business.
Tip #4: Shift your spending power from products that are not making sales to products that are in need of right now in this space. We’re in a pandemic, how can you better serve your clients? Ask them, then create the product/service and spend your marketing budget on that. I hope that makes sense!
Tip #5: We know consumers are still buying, but they are buying online now because they cannot leave the house. Make sure they see you regularly in those online spaces. Go live in your groups, go live on different platforms, team up with your business buddies and go live together (more exposure). I personally do not care for livestream, so I made it fun by going live with my business friends 🙂 There’s always more than one way to skin a cat! The bottom line is: Get online! Your consumers are there.
