The House of Representatives have confirmed that Representative, John Lewis has passed away.

Back in December, it was revealed that Lewis was battling Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Lewis was on the front lines of the bloody campaign to end Jim Crow Laws. He was the last surviving speaker from the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963.

Lewis passed away on the same day as civil rights activist, Rev. C.T. Vivian. He was one of the original 13 Freedom Riders that challenged segregated interstate travel in the South in 1961. Lewis was also the founder of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.

He helped organize the March on Washington, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was the main speaker. On March 7th, 1965, he led one of the most famous marches in history. Lewis marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama with 600 people demanding voting rights they had been denied.
