Spring is one of the most beautiful times of the year, the weather starts to warm up and flowers start to bloom. However, this is also the time when allergies are at an all-time high, and pollen is covering everything in sight.
I’m sure you’ve all heard of ‘spring cleaning’. This phrase comes from the act of cleaning one’s household at the start of spring to commemorate the year that has passed and get ready for the new one to come. Most people use this time to tidy up their rooms or houses and go through old belongings to dispose of things that are no longer needed, making room for newer and better things.
What most people don’t realize, is that this is also a prime time to clean up the parts of your life where you feel the most mentally drained. Everyone has a different cleaning style; the trick is to find what fits best for you and run with it.
Here are some ways I spring clean my life!
- Clean out your phone.
As silly as it sounds, we are a society are consumed by our devices, our phones being the primary source. Often, we clutter our storage with apps, pictures, and other accessibilities that half the time go unused. Going through contacts, including followers on social media, and clearing out apps you no longer have use for can make you feel more organized and clearer.
- Rearrange your room.
This isn’t necessarily cleaning per se, but reorganizing one’s set up of their room can help motivate positive changes and aspects in life.
- Organize your planner.
Planners are one of the best things ever invented, in my opinion. They help keep your social, work and extracurricular life altogether. Taking a minute or two to sort through your planner and markdown important dates ahead of time, can help decrease stress and prepare you for any up and coming events.
- Take time to be alone.
Cleaning and organizing is always beneficial, but sometimes so is simply doing nothing but being by yourself. It’s important to give yourself time and space to be one with your thoughts. In today’s society, we are constantly on the go, and never have time to catch our breaths. It doesn’t make you a loner to be by yourself, it simply gives you the chance to breathe and to communicate with your own thoughts.
- Find a new hobby.
Everyone has a hobby, whether it’s crafting, or working out, or even gardening. We all have our own little niche. But sometimes we get too comfortable and we tend to keep the same routine because we fear what trying something new may do. Even if you end up hating your new hobby, it’s still good to put yourself out there and try something new. If you constantly workout, try reading a book. Or if you’re into gardening, try crafting for a bit. Starting something new can be exciting and can help lead you towards other new ideas.
- Stretch
Now not everyone is an athlete, but regardless stretching is good for EVERYBODY. Whether it’s a simple sit and reach, or a full thirty-minute yoga session, stretching helps get the blood flowing to your entire body, as well as helps relax muscle tension and increase flexibility. You may not even notice how stiff your body can become, but you’ll definitely feel a difference after a good stretch.
