Internationally Acclaimed Recording Artist Continues Sold Out Nationwide Tour!

Keeyen Martin is a North Carolina native whose sound is said to be a perfect blend of soul and RnB. Unlike many, he is not new to the music industry as has been performing and traveling with his talents since the age of three. Keeyen started his journey in Atlanta when he received the Michael Jackson Scholarship to attend Morehouse University. Throughout his musical career, he has shared the stage with some of the industry’s most accomplished talents such as: Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Kanye West, Michelle Williams, Peabo Bryson, KeKe Wyatt, PJ Morton, Common, Elle Varner, Lalah Hathaway and BeBe & CeCe Winans! He just recently performed during Grammy week! Keeyen is now in the last leg of his nationwide tour. He has had two sold out tours, one with Sofar Sounds as well as an international tour in Italy where he has shared his gift through live acoustic performances. While on tour, he has been preparing to release his latest project in early spring 2020.

Tell me about your start in the music industry?

I’ve been singing since I was about 2-3 yrs. old and have been in music all my life. I got started singing bgvs professionally around 11th grade in high school.

Do you think social media has been very beneficial to independent artist today?

Certainly. Social Media has made it an equal playing field as far getting direct access to your fans and listeners. It’s also made it much easier to share your music and content.

What are some things every new artist should know to make sure they get the best earnings and reach the right audiences for their music?

Knowing about PRO’s (Performing Rights Organizations) and choosing one that suits you is very key in order to receive any royalties. Secondly, knowing your target audience beyond who you may “want” to be fans of your music. Really lock into who’s listening and supporting your style of music. Cater to them and build.

What are some of the pros and cons of the music industry?

I think like any great industry you have to embrace the good with the bad. If you want to be in it, embrace it. Pros and cons are always relative in my opinion; so for me pros are the industry is a platform that so many new people can tap into and find successes. A con perhaps, it’s a lot of poor education on what the industry really is. Many people are misguided.

What new music projects are you currently working on? Tell me more about the inspiration behind your latest music project “Girl I’m On The Way.”

A few songs to prelude the ep KM Vol. 1 are on the horizon; with the ep itself soon to come. Girl I’m On The Way stems from being a millennial and messing up in the game of love. I used the phrase “I’m On The Way” and built a song around it. It was pretty easy as I just recapped what it’s like to mess up in a relationship. Then, I decided to tell it from a guy’s perspective.

What advice do you have for others seeking to get their big break in the music industry?

Stay authentic, stay hungry, and remain consistent. If you can be consistent you can be great.
