The 2022 Funk & Soul Fest did not disappoint! The music was everything and had the sold out crowd on their feet all night long. The evening was a stellar mix of timeless bands known for their hit songs. Con Funk Shun did their thing and wowed the crowd with the funk they are known for. “Love’s Train” written by Felton Pilate and Michael Cooper was recently covered by Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak of Silk Sonic and is still number one on the charts! When Con Funk Shun got on stage and started performing their original song, there were nothing but smiles and singing from fans throughout the Microsoft Theater. Cameo put on an incredible performance as well, along with Midnight Star, The SOS Band, Club Nouveau, The Zapp Band, Steve, Arrington and DJ Cazel.
One of the highlights of the night was being able to chop it up and take pictures with the legendary producer, Jimmy Jam of the duo (Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis) He has produced so many groups and came through to represent and show his love and support. My client, Felton Pilate was able to meet him after 40 years of them both being fans of each other from afar. Jimmy Jam paid homage to Pilate for all the work he’s put in over the years. Both men hugged, swapped stories, shared memories, talked, and even laughed about some of their experiences. Pilate expressed his gratitude and admiration for Jimmy Jam and his incredible work history. It was truly a full circle moment and a beautiful interaction to witness.
Later, Pilate sat down with me to discuss his new single, “Here’s What I’d Do For You”, which was released that same night. He also talked with me about the awesome and ongoing buzz that “Love’s Train” has surrounding it. He thanked Silk Sonic for their amazing cover of his original song, flipped through the pages of a variety of Sheen magazines and took some great pictures sharing his love for the publication.
