When it comes to Black women’s health, the numbers don’t lie—and they’re alarming. Despite having lower incidence rates, Black women are dying from breast cancer at rates over 40% higher than white women. The barriers? Late diagnoses, lack of access to quality care, and deeply rooted disparities in the healthcare system. But Sisters Network Inc. is on a mission to change that narrative.
As the nation’s largest Black breast cancer survivorship organization, Sisters Network Inc. has been a beacon of hope for over 30 years, advocating for early detection, access to life-saving resources, and most importantly, sisterhood. With over 25 Affiliate Chapters Nationwide, the organization is expanding its impact by launching a new Greenville, South Carolina chapter, bringing critical support services, education, and advocacy directly to the local community.
A Sisterhood of Support & Survival
Founded in 1994 by Karen Eubanks Jackson, Sisters Network Inc. is a national nonprofit committed to increasing breast health awareness and improving survival rates for Black women. The organization has cultivated a powerful network of survivors, caregivers, and advocates who are dedicated to eliminating breast cancer as a major health crisis in the Black community.
With the Greenville chapter now officially open, local women will have access to monthly support meetings, breast health education, advocacy initiatives, and outreach programs—all designed to empower and uplift those navigating a breast cancer diagnosis.
“Sisters Network Inc. Greenville SC Chapter members are committed to saving our communities, given the alarming number of African Americans affected by breast cancer,” says Stephanie Boyd, Greenville Chapter President. “Our plans include breast cancer awareness events, walks, and much more to ensure we reach as many people as possible. Chapter meetings are held monthly, every first Monday, to discuss upcoming agendas and strategies to ensure the success of our chapter.”
With its expansion to Greenville, Sisters Network Inc. is ensuring that no woman fights alone. Through education, advocacy, and sisterhood, this chapter will be a lifeline for Black women battling breast cancer in South Carolina and beyond.
