Many of us were first introduced to Elena Goode as Jade Taylor on the soap opera As the World Turns. But since then, Goode has branched onto the big screen in the critically acclaimed independent movie Elliot Loves. The New York bred actress talked to us about marriage and her early 90s crush.
Sheen: You had a role in The Dictator. What can we look forward to seeing you in next?
Elena Goode: I am in the indie film Elliot Loves. It was released at the Latina Film Festival in August and it’s on Netflix. It’s about a young, gay Dominican boy and his life and endeavors looking for love.
Sheen: You have been dating the same guy for 2 years. Are you thinking about marriage?
EG: I think that marriage is great, but it’s not something I need to feel like I am in something special or long lasting. There are more important things than a ring.
Sheen: Your dad is Black and your mom is Puerto Rican. Did you ever get any gruff growing up about being biracial?
EG: I never categorized myself as mixed. Growing up in NYC, I just saw myself as a person of color. Everyone around me was mixed with more than one nationality. My best friend was Jewish and Mexican!
Sheen: What do you like to do in your spare time?
EG: My favorite thing to do in my spare time is discover different parts of the city. I like to find new restaurants and museums in NYC. I like to explore.
Sheen: What was your favorite part about the 90s?
Elena Goode: The 90s was a juicy, kind of tacky time. My favorite thing was Dwayne Wayne from A Different World with his flip glasses. He represented a Black man that we hadn’t seen on television yet, and he was my first TV crush.
Sheen: Did you ever rock scrunchies?
EG: No. They were a little too Kelly Kapowski for me.
