At 6’5 with show stopping good looks, women’s basketball star Yelena Leuchanka is a glamazon if there ever was one! This Atlanta Dream player gave us the scoop on shopping, guys, and playing ball while remaining glamorous.
Sheen: How long have you been playing basketball?
Yelena Leuchanka: I actually didn’t begin playing extremely early due to attending music school for piano lessons. My mom promised that once I completed music school I could play ball. I began playing basketball since the age of 10.
Sheen: Do you have any business ventures you would like to share with us?
YL: I’m currently working on several things. My next endeavors include working in the fashion industry, television or fitness!
Sheen: Tall or short guys?
YL: To be honest I have dated both… He can't be too short, that’s my only rule. I like to apply the Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise rule when it comes to height. ;)
Sheen: What is your favorite place in Atlanta to shop?
YL: I love shopping at boutiques because you find so many unique things. But, I am a great bargain shopper, so I love discount stores such as TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack, and H&M. I also enjoy shopping at Phipps Plaza.
Sheen: Where does the idea come from that women in the WNBA are hard and can't be glamorous?
YL: Honestly, this is a great question. Who started this rumor anyway? Unfortunately it’s the reality... I don't think people see us enough outside of the basketball court. People would be so surprised how different we look off the court. It’s a physical sport and people only see us in uniform, a baggie uniform at that, but it doesn’t mean we are not feminine.
Sheen: If you weren't playing basketball, what do you think you would be doing?
YL: I can't imagine my life without basketball. It’s just part of who I am. If I wasn’t playing basketball I would definitely be playing another sport like volleyball or swimming because I love water. If I weren’t playing either of those sports, I would seriously be pursuing a modeling career.
