Sheen: How did you get into the industry?
VaShawn Mitchell: Iam from Chicago which is known as the “Gospel Capital.” I was a song writer for my church and got calls from Smokie Norful and Paul Morton. I had a passion for music, but I came into the industry from behind the scenes.
Sheen:What artist has been your favorite to work with?
VaShawn Mitchell:: I recently sung a song with Fantasia Barrino. It was amazing working with her. But to have worked with Vanessa Bell Armstrong was an amazing experience as a songwriter.
Sheen:What do you think about gospel adopting a more mainstream sound?
VaShawn Mitchell: It’s a great thing! I order to reach the world, we have to use the world’s sound without compromising the message.
